金属板加工 ／ Metal Plate Processing
最近問い合わせの多い金属板の加工についてのお話。
素材それぞれ特徴があるので整理してみました。
まず素材について。
主に使用される金属は下記5種。
・銅板
・真鍮板
・鉄板
・アルミ板
・ステンレス板
その5種類全てに施せる基本的な加工は鏡面、ヘアライン、バイブレーション、ブラスト、
＃61で御紹介した容射なども加工技術の1つです。
最近特に人気が高い仕上げの１つが、鎚目加工。
金槌で叩いて仕上げる為、銅、アルミ、真鍮の柔らかい金属でないと加工できません。
仕上げについて。
一般的なウレタン塗装はどの素材に対しても有効ですが、あくまで上からのせるお化粧。
アルミはアルマイト、ステンレスは電気酸化発色処理を施す事で、入れ墨のように
素材自体に染色を施す事が出来ます。
それに対し、伝統的着色技法を施す事の出来る主な素材は、銅、真鍮。
板材自体を薬品で煮たりバーナーで焼いたりして深みのある色や斑紋を作り出す事ができます。
メッキも仕上げの１つ。
建材として一番使われている鉄については、亜鉛メッキを施す事でトタン板、錫メッキを施す事で
ブリキと名前が変わります。
金、銀、錫、真鍮、銅、ニッケル、クロム、亜鉛、、、メッキの種類も様々です。
ちょっとしたニュアンスで表情が変わる金属。
生かすも殺すも加工次第なのかもしれないですね。

Here summarized each metal’s characteristic.
1) Material
Mainly the following 5 kinds of metal plate are used for processing material:
・Copper plate
・Brass plate
・Iron plate
・Aluminum plate
・Stainless-steel plate
2) Processing
The basic processing which can be applied for all these five metals are
Mirror-, Hairline-, Vibration-, and Blasting-processing.
Metal spraying(introduced in #61) is also another processing to add.
What is especially popular recently is TUI-ME, or Hammered-mark processing . As literally described, TUI-ME processing is finished by hammering work, therefore the metal needs to be soft enough such as Copper, Aluminum, or Brass.
3) Finishing / Coating
General urethane paint is applicable for any material, but this is just simple- make up to add on the surface.
Instead, there is a way to color the material itself like tattoo, e.g. anodic oxide coating for Aluminum, electrolytically colored coating for Stainless-Steel.
While, the materials which traditional coloring method can be applied to are mainly Copper and Brass. For these, the plate itself get burned or boiled in chemicals, and naturally-made rich colors or beautiful mottled patterns can be expressed.
Electroplating is also another finishing method; In case of Iron, which is the most used material for building, electro-plated metals are called differently in Japanese: Iron x zinc plating=TOTAN, Iron x tin plating = BURIKI.
Various plating materials are available: Gold, Silver, Tin, Brass, Copper, Nickel, Chrome, Zinc...
With subtle change of processing, metals change its expressions and atmosphere. It might be all up to processing whether make or break metals' characteristics.
