白漆 / White Urushi lacquer
白い漆はありますか？
という問い合わせをいただくことがあります。
そんなとき、白漆はありますが、白ではなくミルクティー色ですとお伝えしています。
メープルシロップのような飴色の透き漆に、白い顔料混ぜるので、
塗りたては更に濃い色となります。
数ヶ月・数年と年月と共に、漆の色が透けて白色になっていくのですが、ベージュ色どまりです！
画像の2枚を見比べていただくとわかるのですが、右の白いほうはウレタン塗装、
左のベージュ色が白漆 です。
このサンプルは、塗ってから約10年たって、この色に変化をしてきました。
漆が透けて見える白というのは、味わいと深みのある色合いです。
画像ではお伝えしづらく悔しいのですが・・・
漆を使う＝経年変化を楽しむ、という遊びがあるというのが漆の魅力のひとつだと思いますので、
長い目でみていただきたいです！
We are asked, from time to time, “Do you have White Urushi lacquer?". Then we reply, “Yes, we have. But the color is not actually ‘White', but 'the color of Tea with Milk’. “
To make ‘White Urushi’, the white pigment to be added into the openwork Urushi lacquer, which color is light brown-ish like the Maple syrup.
The brown color originated of the openwork urushi lacquer gradually fades out as time goes by, then the white color slowly comes up becoming whiter and whiter - but until the “beige” color at the maxmum.

This white urushi sample has been changed for 10years and now showing this color. The white through the transparent Urushi is rich and deep shades of color - unfortunately, it is difficult to tell you by only images here...
Selecting Urushi lacquer as your material means you have install a "margin" to enjoy its beautiful aging over longer time, which is obviously one of the unique and great character of Urushi lacquer.
