The origin of yosegi is from Hakone, which is famous for its mountains. Hakone has one of the widest varieties of wood resource in Japan. Yosegi was first created 150 years ago. At the time yosegi was not so common among the people as it was considered as a luxury piece of art.
Recently it has become popular among Japanese as a souvenir from the Hakone area. The products created vary from coasters to trays, letterboxes, tissue boxes etc.
We believe that this technique has the potential for development using new concepts applied in different ways.
