A wooden mold is created in the desired shape.

The mold is placed inside a steel container.

a sand mix is used to fill the container.

once the sand has solidified, the mold is removed.

the "nakago" is placed inside the cast. "nakago" is a solid inner mold with the same shape as the outer mold but slightly smaller, often made from a sand-clay mixture.

the second part of the cast is placed on top securing the form.

hot liquid metal is poured into the space between the two molds.

the cast is taken apart and the set product is removed.
