KUMIKO
KUMIKO is a very special wood work technique where no nail or
any other joint is used to connect the pieces to create the beautiful patterns.
There are hundreds of different kind of pattern can be produced
using various combinations of wood pieces.
In order to make them fit together each wooden piece has to be prepared
in exact same sizes which requires time and high skill.
Hinoki wood is often used for this technique and each piece
is prepared with customized tools to achieve perfect result.
Kumiko is a beautiful work of art itself and there are so much possibilities
for new applications and use.
Kumiko is often used as an architectural detail set within frame of windows
and doors such as shoji sliding doors.
We find much less these days in Japanese modern houses
but we feel that it has infinite possibilities as a wooden graphic motifs
which can be used for products and furniture that could become a part of our modern life setting.
