One of the regions famous for the production of chochin is Gifu. Gifu chochin is made using fine bamboo structure and thin, but durable Japanese paper. The most common products made are those used for the ﾒBuddhist lantern festivalﾓ of Japan. However less people participate in this festival than in previous generations, reducing the production of this beautiful craft.
