| Bunaco is a technique which uses stripes of thin beech wood veneer, which are then coiled to create a three dimensional product. It was originally developed as a base for the Tsugaru-nuri (lacquerware) before a paint finish was applied. An unfinished base shows the lines of the coil. This in itself is so unique and beautiful that it has become popular. There are bigger pieces of bunaco products available and the maximum size could be 700φ. The finished products hardly ever crack or deform. Since it is very resistant to dryness the products can be transported overseas. Generally the products have a protection coating on their surface in order to resist water, so kitchen soap can be used to clean them. We suggest that it is better to keep the design simple. This shows off the lines of coil to their most beautiful advantage. | ||||
